Numpty's Guide to Installing mIRC
1. First download the mIRC application by clicking here: mirc621.exe and save it to your desktop (to make it easy to find!)
2. Run the installer by either opening it from your web browser's download dialogue box or by double clicking on the icon on your desktop (named 'mirc621.exe'). Follow the prompts to install the app - you shouldn't need to change any settings at this point.
3. Once installed launched the app from either the new desktop icon (named 'mIRC') or from your Start menu. You'll see the following screen (if you get any pop ups from your firewall you'll need to let the program have access to your connection):
4. Enter your info in the boxes for Full Name, Email Address and Nickname. For Alternative enter a nickname to use in case yours is taken or in the event of a disconnect where the chat room still thinks you're there. I always use the same name but with an underscore at the end, i.e. Numpty_. Note that the nickname can only containe letters, numbers and the underscore.
5. Next click on 'Servers' in the left-hand panel, this will appear:
6. Scroll through the list and double click on 'Quakenet' then click on 'Random server' as shown. Next click 'Select' to return to the previous window. Click 'OK' .
7. In the 'File' menu choose 'Connect' (alternatively click on the 'lightning' icon at the top). Again you might need to allow access through your firewall.
8. A load of guff will spam up and, after a short connection delay, this box appears:
9. Select all the channels in the box (click the top one then scroll to the bottom, hold Shift and click the bottom channel) and click delete to clear the box. Remove the tick from the 'Pop up favorites on connect' option. Next click the 'Add' button and this appears:
10. Fill in the info and check the 'Join on connect' box as shown above then click 'OK'. Finally click on the channel name that's appeared in the list box and click 'Join'.
11. If all has gone well a new window appears with a list of connected members on the right of the screen (the top one should be '@WSAdmin'). Now to chat type in the box at the bottom and press Enter.
12. In future when starting mIRC click 'continue' on the splash screen (you can still use the app after the 30days) then click the 'Connect to server' button to automatically join the channel.
Happy chatting!!!
